I have a PhD in Forestry from the University de Pinar del Rio, an MSc in Tropical Agroforestry (Gender, Rural Development, Farming Systems Research) from the Tropical Agricultural Center for Research and Higher Education (CATIE) in Costa Rica, and I took MSc level courses in Tropical Forest Management at the Universidad Nacional Agraria de La Molina. Prior to that, I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Forestry Management from the University of Alberta after completing the Bachelor of Arts & Science Transfer Program at Mount Royal College.

I have a plethora of experience mentoring and supervising research projects, and tutoring. I have tutored and mentored college-level students of all types including certificate students and undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate students. My work experience includes more than 25 years of experience as a social and cultural academic researcher in Canada, the U.S.A., Latin America, the Caribbean, and Oceania. I taught undergraduate and graduate-level courses in Tropical Forest Ecology, Climate Change, Integrated Resource Management, Advanced Qualitative Methods, and more. I also have more than ten years of experience working in social and cultural anthropology and strategic planning. I also have 10+ years of experience in capacity and collation building of Aboriginal communities and developing and monitoring all phases of project management, analysis, program design, implementation, and ex-ante and ex-post monitoring and evaluation. In addition, I've got over 15 years of experience with administration and financial management of large-scale international projects and programs, particularly with EU, AusAID, CIDA, CUSO, CECI, and liaising with governmental counterparts and non-governmental donors and funding agencies. I'm a specialist in social forestry and community forestry participatory approaches (Participatory Action Research, Participatory Rural Appraisal-PRA, and Rapid Appraisal of Agriculture Knowledge Systems-RAAKS) and other rural development initiatives. I'm also experienced in Moodle and other academic learning management systems.
